Tuesday 26th May - bike ***** - Short two rivers, Orwell to the Deben –
Sunny and hot.
Our 41st Wedding Anniversary :) Whoa I can’t believe it either and what a
fantastic 41 years they have been!
Woke on our 41st wedding anniversary to yet another sunny warm day, the
good weather just keeps on coming although we could do with some rain now
as our butts are empty and we need it to keep Mags fantastic garden going!
We had no real plans for today but were keen to get out on the bikes as we
haven’t used them for four days which included three good windsurfing
sessions! Mag suggested we take a flask and lemon muffin to Landguard which
seemed like a good idea. So, after a light breakfast and doing my exercises
in the garden we left home at eleven heading down to the prom. There was a
digger levelling the beach to move some beach hut off the prom to give
people more room to social distance. We turned right past the pier and
cycled along the prom but it was very busy and Mag soon got feed up and
headed for the road. We had perfect blue sky with a smattering of clouds as
we biked across Landguard Nature Reserve ending up on the old jetty for our
cuppa and cake. We spent ages enjoying the scenery before starting back
avoiding the busy prom and taking the road. Mag stopped at Lidl while I
continued to the Spa Gardens and back on the prom which was much quieter
this end:) With lock down still effecting many many people and schools
still closed there were lots enjoying a day on the beach :) Then around to
The Dip and onto the most amazing bank of poppies by the last beach huts
before reaching the golf course. I never tire of taking pics of them,
really special set against the blue sky:) Then onto the Ferry always good
for some camera action and it’s great to she some boats back on the river
and the boatyard was a hive of activity with owners getting their craft
ready for the water! I then took the quickest route home for lunch and
learned on Facebook that I had some pics in today Ipswich Star:) As Mag has
done such a wonderful job in our little garden this year I entered her in a
garden competition being run by the Star and sent them loads of pics and
got a couple into day and wish Mag luck in the competition!
Walk ***** - Waldringfield – along the River Deben.
After yummy scrambled egg for dinner we take our chairs around to our old
Friend Mary sitting in her front garden at a safe distance of course, we
even took a flask so we didn’t have to go into her house and spent a nice
hour chatting:) Then Mag suggested we drive over to the plant man in
Waldringfield so she could buy some anniversary plants. We left Felixstowe
at four heading to Tesco’s at Martlesham to put diesel in the van, the
first since 17th March stopping at Walton Co-op to get a Star. We continued
onto the lovely little village of Waldringfield on the banks of the River
Deben where Mag had great fun choosing seven plants:) We then parked in the
car park behind the Maybush, getting a parking ticket from someone just
leaving and walked down to the river. It was as usual as pretty as a
picture with dinghies and yachts on the water with families still on the
small beach as the tide was high with kids swimming in the river. We then
walked as far as we could along the river path having it all to ourselves.
It has been many years since you could walk to Hemley from here as the path
has been eroded forming loads of marshy creek:) So the end of a top day and
more good weather coming with even some foiling breezes later in the week,
hopefully:)
